Waziga 2008 Results

Waziga 2008 Charity Championship Open was yet another success. Players from New York,
Dallas Texas, California and Oregon flew into Seattle to challenge the 20 plus Washington State
Waziga warriors in pursuit of the 2008 Waziga Open Championship trophy.
The chosen golf courses for the tournament: Sumner-Meadows Links and Jackson Park stood
their ground challenging golf players to their limits therefore living every player with a good chance
to walk away with the trophy. Mr. Abraham Abe displayed his prowess in the opening round at
Sumner-Meadows Links where he scored the best score of the day with 12 over par (84 gross).
But the following round at Jackson Park on the second day of the tournament was a different story
when Hilary Adiele and Mr. Newton Kanhema posted the best score of the day – 16 over par (87
gross).
The city of Seattle indeed lived up to its reputation -unpredictable! Friday May 2, 2008 turned out to
be a beautiful sunny golf day though wind started blasting balls off their targets at twilight. And that
of course compounded the usual unforgivable Sumner –Meadows. Only 6 players out of 28
managed to gross below the psychological 100 after 18 holes. And these typical armature scores
embarrassed many triggering determination to redeem themselves in the final round at Jackson
Park the next day; Saturday May 3, 2008.
And Seattle – an American city furthest from Africa seemed willing to live up to the African proverb
that rain is a symbol of blessings. The golfers were welcomed to Jackson Park by Seattle’s
famous liquid sunshine. The showers continued spitting till the end of the competition at around
lunch-time and golfers were not deterred from merry making and forging everlasting relationship
which have since grown beyond Seattle.
When all was said and done, the defending champion Hillary Adiele managed successfully to
defend his championship title to retain the trophy. Cyril Faulkner and Lloyd Musabayana came
short. Abraham Abe who opened with an impressive 12 over par on May 2, 2008 collapsed at the
merciless Jackson Park. Weather could not be a sufficient excuse for him given his 30 plus
residence years in Seattle!
If you think you can do better, please join us next year at the 2009 Waziga Open.
